The new regions in France. A well thought-out project? Successful mergers or not?

After sixty years of a delimitation largely based on historical geography, the merger of French regions, resulting in the elimination of nine of them in metropolitan France, was presented as bringing budget savings, simplicity and attractiveness. Since 2016, has this triple objective been validated? Have savings been observed? Has simplicity materialized? Has the attractiveness of the merged regions improved?
