Populations of France: A growing emigration with a diversified geography
By Eric Le Penven
English
Is France, a country of immigration, also a country of emigration? To answer this question, a study of the data provided by the register of French citizens established outside of France is useful, but insufficient. By examining migration databases that cross-reference country of birth and country of residence, the analysis evaluates the number of French-born persons residing abroad and highlights a sustained increase, higher than for France’s neighbors. In the third part, the examination of six emigration countries highlights the diversity of situations and drivers of emigration from France.
