Environments and sustainable development: what geographical approaches?

Human activities have all kinds of consequences on ecosystems, so it is clearly necessary to think and act in favour of environments conducive to sustainable development. However, the specific geographical characteristics of territories, whether demographic, economic, organisational or political, are decisive in determining the possibilities for achieving sustainable management. How can sustainable territories be created? The aim of this text is to present, according to four branches of geography, the challenges of public policy with regard to the environment and the need to embed sustainability in territories.
