Emerging countries and population policies
By John F. May, Tumen Sosorburam, Jack A. Goldstone
English
This analysis first examines the concept of economic emergence and describes different types of emerging countries. It then analyzes the relationship between demographic trends and economic emergence from the perspective of population policies. In this context, the analysis delves into the example of three countries from three different continents: one potentially emerging country, Kenya, and two emerging countries, Mexico and the Philippines. The study is illustrated with figures that distinguish the demographic trajectories of each country. Finally, the analysis of each of the countries leads to a comparison of the characteristics of their demographic policies and to lessons for emerging countries as a whole.
